Rockin at work

Well, it's been some time since I posted, but thought now is as good a time as any to pick-up where I left off!

Things are getting better after the 18 months of crap, I'm back at work, spending the day fiddling with javascript and CSS, nothing like fiddling to keep you busy (stop sniggering at the back! you know who you are!)

I'm spending much more time online now I am back at work, and after having nearly 2 years with only patchy time spent surfing, I'm amazed at how big this "web 2.0" thing has become. Not only in terms of the now cheesy reflected glossy logos, but also in terms of some of the creativity behind sites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg and, my personal favourite, Last.FM

Much of this creativity is due to how the boundaries of what is possible have been pushed back as User Agents become more sophisticated and more standards compliant. Mature, cross-browser librarys such as jQuery (watch this space for more posts on this one!), Ext, and Prototype make Ajax and DHTML development a painless experience, giving client side developers and designers the ability to focus more on user experience and clever functionality, and increasing CSS support (and experience) is giving us some fantastic web design. After my enforced time-out from design and development, it's an exciting time to come back! I made my first tentative steps into web design and development back in 1996, with a music site, the now defunct music.gb.com, but in the last 12 years, it's staggering just how far we've come.

I spend 7 hours a day, sat grooving (I love Last FM!!) and coding. What better way to earn a living. I'm just looking forward to seeing what lies around the corner
